Certino is not a payroll provider, it's the calculation layer that payroll providers, tax advisors and mobility teams rely on to deliver with confidence.

Global expatriate payroll is difficult not because the rules are unclear, but because delivery is fragmented. Inputs vary by provider, calculations are reworked multiple times, and responsibility is pushed downstream to payroll teams who inherit risk without control.

Certino was created to change that model.

Rather than acting as another payroll provider or advisory layer, Certino sits upstream of payroll and tax delivery. It consumes standardised inputs, applies consistent country specific calculation logic, and produces payroll ready outputs that downstream teams can rely on with confidence.

The company was founded in 2017 by Richard McBride, following more than 25 years leading global mobility and employment tax programmes for multinational organisations. First hand experience running these processes at scale exposed the operational strain, compliance risk and cost inefficiency created by spreadsheet driven workflows and duplicated calculation effort.

Certino was built as a technology led solution to remove that burden. One calculation layer, designed by practitioners, that enables faster delivery, lower risk and consistent outcomes across countries, policies and providers.

Certino is built and run by people who have delivered expatriate payroll and tax in real operating environments.

Our team combines deep technical tax expertise with product, engineering and operational experience. This allows us to design software that reflects how payroll and mobility teams actually work, not how theory suggests they should.

We work closely with our clients and partners, treating them as an extension of our team. Our approach is pragmatic, transparent and delivery focused. We prioritise accuracy, consistency and clarity over complexity, and we design our platform and documentation to support repeatable, scalable delivery models.

Richard founded Certino after more than 25 years working directly inside global mobility, tax and payroll delivery functions. His experience spans advising multinational organisations and owning the operational risk associated with cross border employment, compliance and payroll execution.

Tom Lockyer

Chief Operating Officer

Tom is responsible for Certino’s product strategy and operational execution, ensuring the platform delivers consistent, payroll ready outcomes across countries, policies and providers. He brings hands on experience building and scaling SaaS products in both B2B and B2C environments.
